Moving Beyond Depression Success Story
Candace was referred to the Moving Beyond Depression program after scoring in the moderate range on a depression screening. Candace is a single mother with two children. She experienced trouble sleeping, low energy, decreased pleasure in things she used to enjoy, and a decrease in appetite. In addition, she was experiencing feelings of hopelessness and failure. Candace began working on self compassion, engaging in pleasurable activities, and identifying negative thoughts. She initially felt skeptical about self-compassion and self care activities and how that would help improve her mood.
By the end of treatment, Candace no longer expressed feelings of hopelessness or failure. She reported a decrease in depressive feelings and an increase in self-esteem. Candance reported a change in her thinking that has helped reduce her negative thoughts. Candace made a great deal of progress during her time in MBD. She was able to build on her skills to gain confidence in herself and express that she is not hopeless or a failure.
