Car Seat Safety
Keeping Kids Safe in the Car
Your first responsibility as a parent is to keep your child safe, and one of the places they’re most vulnerable is in the car. Especially this time of year when winter conditions can make driving even more dangerous.
The leading cause of death for children aged 1 to 14 is unintentional injuries, and car accidents are the most common.
- The backseat is the safest place for a child.
- Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines to determine what size and type of car seat you need.
- Keep children rear-facing for as long as the guidelines allow – almost always 2 years of age.
- Winter coats and snowsuits should not be worn underneath the harness straps.
- If you can pinch the harness strap, it’s too loose.
