Winnie Finds Her Brave

How Play Therapy Boosted Her Confidence

Winnie Finds Her Brave

Five-year-old Winnie was referred to TFC for play therapy. She was having difficulty regulating her emotions when away from her mom. Through therapy, she learned tools for self-regulation, positive self-talk, and confidence, including using her “big voice” and taking calming deep breaths when upset.

During therapy, Winnie learned how to use her “big voice” and take calming deep breaths when she felt upset. With consistent support for both Winnie and her mom, she gradually became more comfortable being apart from her. By the end of treatment, her teacher shared a proud moment: Winnie confidently introduced herself to a new student and they spent the entire day playing together.

Therapy helped Winnie build the courage to try new things independently. She started gymnastics and participated in lessons on her own. After just her second class, she beamed as she told her therapist, “I am so brave! I did the balance beam all by myself and didn’t cry. I am so brave!”
