Food Program Supports Child Care Infrastructure

The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a Federal Program that provides guidance, support, and reimbursement for serving healthy food in care settings. TFC has been a CACFP partner since 1984 and currently supports over 126 Kansas child care providers. 

While it is often colloquially referred to as “the food program,” TFC’s team offers so much more than that. TFC targets child care providers who serve low-income families. By providing partial reimbursement, providers are empowered to increase nutritious offerings for the children in their care – which can often be more difficult and expensive to access for families in underserved communities and within food deserts. With many costs rising, healthy food is often an extra expense child care providers don’t have room for in their budget. The visits and resources make healthy choices easier, and occasional incentives and continued education are offered as well.

TFC has been a CACFP sponsor since 1984, and we currently support over 126 Kansas child care providers. TFC is recruiting in-home child care providers in the following Kansas counties: Anderson, Atchison, Brown, Coffey, Douglas, Franklin, Jefferson, Johnson, Leavenworth, Linn, Miami, Osage, Shawnee, and Wyandotte.
